When I worked for years at a major grocery chain in the area, I know that cashiers were encouraged to use plastic slimply because it was cheaper for the company. There was a big sign over by where you punched in that listed what it cost the company per plastic, paper, or paper and plastic combo. By that reasoning though, you would think that a reusable bag would be even better though.
