Why is it that lasagna is a food that can only be made in quantities suitable for armies?

I normally make enough for an army myself. I went shopping with somebody who has lived alone for years, and managed to make only 1 9x13" pan, and considered it an accomplishment.

My grandmother always made it in a 9x13 pan. It was generally gone within two days. At the time there were 5 or 6 people living there.
