Tabby had a great time saturday. I wasn't sure what she would think of the programing but she really hit it off in the fast track program. Among other things she did the Kamikaze Costuming panel, where the kids had 2 hours to design and make costumes. They then wore these costumes to open the Masquerade. Tab was a spring fairy (sans wings; picture to be added at some point). She got a huge thrill out of seeing herself on tv later in the evening when they reran the taped Masquerade on Arisia tv.

Sunday, sunday... surprisingly there weren't as few people present as I feared there would be. The panels were a little sparesly attended but not too badly. This was the first day that I let Tab spend time in fast track without me, which meant I could actually attend some of the panels I was interested in. At one of them I even saw [livejournal.com profile] ragingamazon briefly. Sadly I missed the fact that the beading workshop had been moved to saturday, but I did find some really interesting beads over the weekend that I now need to find the perfect project for.

Tab and I did not make it to Sunday Sundae (maybe next year). I wanted to go to the Gripe Session. Thankfully Tab fell asleep within the first few minutes. I was amazed and gratified by how few gripes were actually expressed. Mostly the comments were actually (gasp) constructive or even positive. Due to the snow emergency the hotel had been understaffed, but everyone was still smiling. Additionally the con continued in some capacity for some extra time due to the snow. Arisia kept open the gaming room and the movie rooms (among other things) until 10 am so that snow-bound people would have plenty to do.

Break down was crazy as usual. I told myself that I wasn't going to do break down this year, as I did set up instead. Of course that didn't end up happening. I spent most of the time helping break down fast track though. It really got me thinking about maybe working with them a little bit next year. We will see though; I do really like working with Ops.

Since we had the opportunity we stayed over. We didn't even make it to the Dead Dog Party. I was tired and hungry, so we just ate in our room. The local pizza delivery places were obviously busy and actually stopped accepting orders. Roger braved the weather to walk to P.F.Chang's to pick up our order. Once we had a nice little "indoor picnic" and went to sleep. Maybe that doesn't sound exciting but it ended up being the perfect way to end the weekend.

Snow Day

When Roger went to get the car from the garage in the morning all of the doors had frozen shut. He had to climb in through the trunk to start the car and warm it enough so the most of the doors would open. Thankfully he picked us up at the door so that I wouldn't have to take Tab the block and a half to the garage. As we waited we saw a bunch of little sparrows. They were sitting all puffed up under the heat lamps in front of the hotel. What smart little birds! The still looked so cold though.

On the way home we saw much snow related activity. Heavy equipment was out on the road to dig out the streets as much as possible. There were not one, but two people skiing across the MIT campus. And at home there were many people digging out their cars with lawn chairs ready to immediately claim their spot. (Does this happen in other parts of the country?)

Yesterday afternoon they declared Tab's school canceled for both today and tomorrow. So not only did she have the whole weekend at the con, she has two snows days too. Tufts waited until fairly late in the evening to declare that there would be no classes for me today. I doubt I will get tomorrow off as well though. And it looks like there is more snow to come. The current weather report calls for snow showers wednesday, thursday, and then more next week.

So today we are staying inside baking cookies (oatmeal raisin). I want to get some more knitting done too, since I almost finished Tab's poncho at Arisia. I figure another hour or two and it will be done. If only Roger had been home it would have felt like a weekend.
