Tab and I have been really enjoying Escape Pod and it's sister podcast Pod Castle, a science fiction and fantasy podcast respectively. I really like the fact that the episodes have a warning at the beginning if applicable, which makes for a really convenient screening for the little one. Despite that though there are often stories that Tab just doesn't get. She is such an avid reader with a great vocabulary that if there are no adult or violent concepts I forget to worry about her literary comprehension, which is normally very good.

An example where this was an issue was an episode of Escapepod called Edward Bear and the Very Long Walk. (There is a warning that it may not be suitable for very young children, but I have found that such stories are okay for Tab.) We first listened to this story and I have to admit I was a little sniffly at the end. A day or two later I was telling Roger the story, and though I am sure hormones weren't helping, I totally started to cry in re-telling the story. I love this story. It is beautiful, recalls Pooh in a nostalgic way and goes further with it, and unabashedly tries to pull an emotional response. So when we finished listening to it, I admit I was a bit taken aback that Tab just looked up and said "Is that it?"

Such discerning taste!

I'm so glad to hear you're an EP fan! I'm an early adopter and donor. Steve has done so much good with it.
