At auctions of antiques, I have seen a fork supposedly made from a rhinoceros horn -- such a horn can be considered a form a hair. I have a feeling that your $15 hairfork was not a piece of tableware of this nature.

Nope, it was actually very much like this one (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=42567913). It is like a hairstick but in the shape of a 2 pronged fork.
