Chiquita has been "dying a death of a thousand and one papercuts" waiting to get her ears pierced. My big thing was that I wanted it done at a piercer and not by some teen in a mall with a piercing gun. The logistics and timing took some work, but she finally got them done today at Chameleon in Harvard Square.

Her piercer was named Owen, and I can't say enough good things about him. He spoke directly to her, and listened when she talked. He was also very positive, and didn't try to surprise her. He went through what he was going to do and when. Then when he did it, he let her know right before, letting her feel more in control and less nervous.

Chiquita was surprised by how painless it was after the initial piercing. The second one was a little worse than the first, but still no tears. And she is quite taken by the sparkly. We will see how she sleeps tonight.

How'd she do last night? Is she going to the meeting with us tonight?

Seems a little achy, but not too bad.

[livejournal.com profile] cintyber will be watching her tonight, so that she doesn't have to be dragged along.

That's good. On both counts.

Good to know.

M is interested in having hers done, possibly for her next birthday. I told her it needed to be done right, so I will keep this place in mind. Thanks.
How is she doing with the cleaning and all?

Fairly well, the instructions they gave are different than the gun ones, but they gave good reasons for them all. The really interesting difference to me is that they tell her not to turn or twist them (normally done lest they get 'stuck'). Apparently that instruction you commonly hear is a remnant from when your training piercing would just have a length of cotton thread, which really might unlike metal. But touching them all the time introduces bacteria and actually makes it heal slower.
