February is also a month which celebrates many events - students, please consider the significant dates in this month (past or upcoming) - such as (but NOT limited to….) Groundhogs Day (2-2), Charles Dickens’ Day (2-7), Edison’s B-Day (2-11), Lincoln’s B-Day (2-12), Valentine’s Day (2-14) Susan B Anthony’s B-Day (2-15), the discovery of Pluto Day (2-18), Washington’s B-Day (2-22), etc; and create an object which reflects the importance of that event in shaping the world now. Higher points for linking this object to a celestial body (be creative!)
Option 1. - Make objects that represent an event or the entire month of February
Option 2. - Make something to celebrate one of the holidays during the month
Option 3. - Make a detailed object to represent the conjunction of the Sun and Mars
Care of Magical Creatures
Study your Fwooper & complete one of the following:
1) Craft a brightly colored and/or patterned object
2) Create something that is amazingly beautiful (beauty is in the eye of the beholder/artist) or something incessantly annoying (again, in the eye of the beholder/artist)
3) Craft something to protect your ears from all the imminent noise!
Charms: Choir Practice
Craft something inspired by a piece of music. Tell us what musical selection you chose.
DADA
Option 1: Know what attracts you. The dark wizard may use this to cast their manipulative web over you. For example if dark heavy chocolate is very appealing and suddenly Prof. Lockhart begins to smell of a hundred weight of the best swiss, you should ask yourself why. What would be a sure way of attracting you into a dark wizard’s clutches and what project would you create to represent this? For example, if you find the turning of the leaves in the fall to be incredibly romantic then you could craft a scarf made of beautiful autumnal colors to represent this.
Option 2: Protection from a love spell: create something that will counteract spell-induced infatuation. For example, if you love the smell of roses and this would cause you to follow their scent, perhaps a cowl that could be pulled up to shield your nose from olfactory seduction would be of use.
Herbology: Dittany
Option 1: Craft something with/ or inspired by flames.
Option 2: Create a love potion (yes even though I told you not to) or a present for your sweetheart.
Option 3: Create something to help with healing.
History of Magic
Option 1: Make something inspired by candy or another sweet you found at Honeydukes.
Option 2: Many candies sold at Honeydukes are bespelled to produce amusing, temporary results when eaten. Make something that represents what happened to you when you ate magical candy.
Bonus points for all-around awesomeness in crafting or for incorporating one of the following holidays: National Plum Pudding Day (Feb. 12th), International Half-Price Chocolate Day (Pa’Choco Day, Feb. 15th), National Gumdrop Day (Feb. 15th), National Chocolate Mint Day (Feb. 19th).
Potions
Option 1: Craft a container in which to hide your love potion to sneak it past Filch.
Option 2: Disguise your love potion in something apparently edible.
Option 3: Spinners and dyers, you will need to be very creative to disguise your potion in your project. Perhaps you could spin an art yarn with bits and bobs hidden in amongst the yarn or use one of those natural dyes whose results look nothing like the starting ingredient.
Transfiguration
Option 1: Knit, crochet, dye, weave, or spin an item that will in turn be useful to you as a knitter, crocheter, dyer, weaver, or spinner. Ex: a project bag, needle cozy or one of those fancy crochet spiral hook holders, spindle organizer, or hot (dye) pot holders. Be creative, but most importantly get something useful out of this assignment!
Option 2: Spinners, Dyers, and Fiber Processors ONLY, you may create something inspired by a specific, favorite muggle artifact of yours. Ex: Do you have an affinity for electrical wire and plugs? Spin a yarn reminiscent of these multi-colored conductors of muggle-magic! This option is a bit more abstract, so you’re really going to have to sell it with your turn-in story.
Secret Option 3: Meddle with Muggle Artifacts. If you’re feeling up to a breach of the Secrecy Statute, go ahead and magically (knitterly, crocheterly, or fiberly) modify an everyday item. This includes all manners of kooky cozies and any Yarn Bombing techniques that won’t result in an extended stay in Azkaban. Ex: toilet paper roll cozy anyone? Bonus points will definitely be awarded for brazenness!
