Arithmancy:
Option 1. - Make objects using Pi as a reference or component
Option 2. - Make something to celebrate the magic number seven
Option 3. – Create a project related to the Ides of March, the Spring Solstice or any March constellation

Charms:
This term we will study the Quaffle. According to Quidditch Through the Ages, the Quaffle is enchanted to fall to the ground more slowly than a regular ball, and it is shaped to make it easier to grip. Craft something light and lacy: light, so that it falls slowly to the ground (yes, we understand that two objects of different mass fall at the same rate, but think wind resistance or something), and lacy, because those holes make it easier to get your fingers through. (Summary make something light and lacy.)

DADA:
Option 1: “I must not tell lies”- craft a cowl or scarf that you could wind around your face to stop yourself from making snide comments or talking out of turn.

Option 2: “Wands away and quills out”- show us that you aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo, craft a project with a technique that you’ve read about, but never used before. Show us that practical knowledge trumps theory just like Harry and his friends did in Dumbledore’s Army! Never fear, you are allowed to consult various resources such as books, videos, and friends- what would Dumbledore’s Army have been without Harry’s expertise? Please note what technique you used and tell us about your experience.

Option 3: “The Hogwarts High Inquisitor knows best”- Maybe you begin setting off fireworks inside the castle or create a charmed swamp in a hallway for Filch to boat students across… You could, wait, we’re not going to do all the work here, so you tell us! Be creative and show us how you would anger Professor Umbridge, or, if you really fear that evil pen, a project that would prevent you from angering her.

Herbology: Poppy
Option 1: Craft something flowery. Whether it is a flower patterned piece or the flower itself, it’s spring - let your yarn bloom!
Option 2: Craft an object using beads (like poppy seeds) to embellish.
Option 3: Craft an object inspired by or in honor of the character Poppy Pomfrey.

History of Magic
For your assignment this month, embrace the love of sport shown by the early inventors of Quidditch. Craft something inspired by a sport! Any sport can be represented, be it modern or historical, Wizarding or Muggle, or at the professional, amateur, or school level. You may craft something inspired by playing a sport, something that demonstrates your support of a team, or something useful to a spectator of your chosen sport.

Muggle Studies:
1) Craft an item that will help prevent a Muggle illness.
2) Craft an item to treat a Muggle illness or injury, tell us how this item will make a Muggle feel better.
3) Spin or dye materials with comforting qualities. (for example, tea dye may have aromatherapy benefits)

Potions:
March is the month that Muggles use to show appreciation to women all over the world. Although International Women’s Day is normally held on the 8th of March, Potions class is going to celebrate the meaning of being a woman, loving a woman, and celebrating womanhood all month long. We have probably all known an extremely strong woman in our lives--strong in the moral/emotional fiber way, not the lifting a car way. Craft an item for that strong woman or representative of that strong woman in your life. Some of us wish we could be as strong, so for one of the options, craft a strengthening potion. This can be something that would help you to emulate the strong woman or to give you strength. If you are in particular need of immense strength, you might include Re’em blood in your potion. (Description of the Re’em from Fantastic Beasts which I borrowed from the CoMC professors: Extremely rare giant oxen with golden hides, the Re’em are found both in the wilds of North America and the Far East. Re’em blood gives the drinker immense strength, though the difficulty in procuring it means that supplies are negligible and rarely for sale on the open market. They have a Ministry of Magic Classification of XXXX--Dangerous/requires specialist knowledge/skilled wizard may handle.) Spinners or dyers produce a womanly yarn.

Option 1: Craft an item for a strong woman in your life.
Option 2: Craft a strengthening potion. May use Re’em blood for extra potency but Re’em blood is not required. (hint: Remember they’re RARE…perhaps a rare fiber could be used here? What are some other characteristics your potion could reflect? Be creative!)
Option 3: Spin or dye yarn that is womanly or reminiscent of being a woman.

Transfiguration: Dragon's blood

The two known uses of dragon’s blood are:
1. Oven cleaner
2. Spot remover

Historical wisdom leads us to suspect the following uses:
1. Gives wisdom
2. Grants the ability to converse with animals, specifically birds
3. Poison (i.e. instant death)
4. Gives super human abilities
5. Medicine ( i.e. heals wounds; Hagrid used a dragon steak for his injuries from the giants in book 5)
6. Cures blindness

There are four more lost to wizardkind… for now.

Summary:
Research the 12 uses and then knit, crochet, weave or spin something that will teach us about one of the 12 uses for dragon’s blood. Ex. dish cloth for 2. Spot Remover, or dyed yarn for 5.
