Damn, I am super behind again. Several weeks ago now, C took me to see Infected Mushroom for my birthday. Despite them opening the doors nearly an hour late (since the first opening group was really late for sound checks) the evening was a ton of fun. We had gotten there really and had a great spot near the stage.

I was not a huge fan of the opening group's stuff though they were clearly having fun, which helped.

I did really like the 2nd guy in the line-up though. His name is Randy Seidman, and you can check out his stuff on his webpage if you are interested. Mostly he seems to do house with some trance. Apparently he is actually the tour manager for Infected Mushroom as well, so he plays with them a lot. I honestly would go to a club just to see him though.

Infected Mushroom was as expected awesome, though the crowd got really asinine. Fortunately I had C to help carve out some space. One altercation in particularly nearly came to blows. Crazy! We left before their set was quite over due to the late start and the fact that we had taken public transport.

Yay! Lots of fun though. I also rediscovered that I am too out of shape to be dancing 4 hours without hurting the next day, but hey it was awesome to be out doing it.

Gah how does a week get away from me so fast? I have a bunch of stuff to post about, but we will see how long my attention span for writing about them is. (Hint: short.)

Thursday [livejournal.com profile] salvbard, Chiquita and I went over to the Fenway to see a preview showing of Star Trek with [livejournal.com profile] chaiya, [livejournal.com profile] crazybone, [livejournal.com profile] devoken, [livejournal.com profile] noeltheone, and assorted other awesome Arisia people.

Seeing this movie with this sort of crowd made a really good movie even better. There are lots of nods to the original series obviously. Chris Pine was really good as Kirk. He totally pulled off the playboy thing without just seeming creepy. As I said as we walked out of the theater, he actually played the character, where I had to admit I was worried that we would see him playing the part of Shatner butchering the character.

Zachary Quinto had some big shoes to fill as Spock, but apparently having Leonard Nimoy on site didn't hurt. I was pleasantly surprised at the job he does. Also due to differences in time-line, small differences in characterization made sense. In the end he shows good hints of that dry intellectual humor that I love. I wish we got a little more of that, but again in the storyline, it is a forgivable difference.

I wasn't as big a fan of Karl Urban who played Bones, but I am having a hard time putting my finger on why. Simon Pegg as Scotty on the other hand rocked my socks!

I am really glad I got to go as much for the social experience as for the movie itself, but having said that, I would have gladly paid full price to see this movie. And that is saying something knowing how cheap I am.
