Chest Opening Poses & Pigeon Pose

jasra came with and helped me get out of the house on time and to yoga class. I am so seriously greatful for both her company, and for keeping me going when I don't think I can do anything. I had a bunch of thoughts from that class and the one before that have been rattling around in my head, and I wanted to get them down before I forgot them.
Seeing me in child's pose before class the prior week (yay for following through on that) Mary, the fantastic instructor I like best, had set us through a vinyasa that started and kept revisiting the pose. Bliss!
The following class, I had a surprise. Normally I am huge fan of hip opening poses, but in this class I was startled by how much enjoyed the chest opening poses. I have done chest opening poses before, but it was like a completely different experience. Actually it was in many ways had the pleasant stretching sensation of a good stretch after a pleasant nap, both physically and emotionally. I am not sure what was different about this time. Maybe it was a matter of being more ready for it in my life. I am not sure. Either way, it feels like there are lessons for me in it, and it seems good.
After class I picked Mary's brain about pigeon pose. This one is fairly challenging, and every time it had come up over the last few months I had been left with a feeling that I was not really getting the true benefit from it. I felt like I hadn't internalized what I was supposed to be focusing on in it, and it is definitely one that you could do yourself damage doing if done incorrectly. After some tips and adjustments I think I have a better feel for it, though, and if I can start doing it regularly it should help a lot in terms of working on flexibility throughout the whole hip.
