Laundry

So it is day 12 of below freezing weather. This makes me very glad that I have a ridiculous number of really long warm socks (thigh hi or longer) for to wear as an extra layer. Fortunately the new washing machine was delivered on Tuesday, so now I will be able to wash and start rewearing the pairs I have. We ran the first load of laundry last night, but I figure I have at least 4 more ready to go as soon as line space frees up. One of the nice thing about line drying in the winter is that (1) they dry really fast as the air is so dry and (2) some much needed moisture is added to the air. (We have those big old fashioned metal radiators that make the house positively arid.) The major downside to line drying though is that I can only do one load a day.

Sock Dreams (http://www.sock-dreams.com/_shop/pages/socks_cat_CategoryID_85.php) carries a the best selection of thigh hi socks I have seen. I have 3 pairs of M40s that I really like. They can stay up by themselves, but are so long they get bunchy by my ankles if I don't wear a garter. I have one pair of the wool M40s that is the best winter socks I own. I also have a couple of pairs of "E.G. Smith solid" over the knee stockings which is the only positive experience with stockings (I ruin most fairly quickly; these I wear all the time and have not ruined any yet). The stockings I can either wear with or without garter belt. The rest of my thigh-his I have gotten at places like TJMaxx. Perhaps another trip to Downtown Crossing is in order.

i want a garter belt! but last time i went into a department store they didn't sell them. i didn't really think they were an unusual item. any suggestions for those? my initial internet search turned up things that were more for looks than function.

Depends if you want sock garters or a garter belt. Sock garters can be found at Sock Dreams, but I find I rarely use mine. Another thought is do you want just the "belt" part or one that is kind of girdle like and covers your belly and hips more. I have sock garters (as mentioned previously) and the second type of garter belt mentioned here. A friend usually has a great selection at the flea, which is where I got mine this past winter. She carries both types of garter in a variety of styles which is nice because she will let you actually try them on and see which style you find most comfortable.
