I know a ton of you guys are really creative out there, so I am making a general collective brain call. My dear friend [livejournal.com profile] eoywin is getting married and I wanted to brainstorm for decorations/favors. Their theme is fairy tale or medival. I am starting to think of a few ideas, but I would love to hear about what you guys can think of.

Traditional "favors"

Traditionally, a "favor" was a token given to show that one person has the "favor" of another. For a knight to fight for the honor of a lady, for example. One can "favor" several different people, or, as some Queens were known to do, to "favor" many knights that were about to fight for the honor of the kingdom in question. Oftimes this was something embroidered with the badge or arms of the lady's house, if she has the right to use them, or of the knight in question's arms if not.

Do you have a personal symbol? Does your lord? Since you have colours already ... that should be translatable.

Or perhaps I do not quite understand the current concept of "favor" in terms of Weddings.

The current concept of a wedding favor is slightly akin to the current idea of a party favor. Each guest gets one, so as not to show favortism and to thank them for coming. I have no doubt that, for better or worse, it is a result of a more politically correct climate. Unfortunately this can add greatly to the cost of the wedding depending on how you do it, since there can be a goodly number of guests. But a wedding favor can also be considered a memento for many people, and so something small and thoughtful, that really represents the couple and what they hope for is really the most desirable option. If it can be made as apposed to purchased, it it both more economically feasible and more personal.
