I went to the Boston Knit-out by myself on sunday. Tab was originally going to go with me, but plans changed last minute and she ended up visiting other family instead. I had a lot of fun despite her absence though. I have tons of new ideas and things I want to try. Events like this can be fabulous for getting energized. Plus it was just fun to go someplace where not only is it not considered rude to knit while talking, but most of the other people were behaving similarly (spinning, crocheting, knitting, etc). Even Roger commented on how happy and relaxed I sounded after. I am very glad I went.

I must be odd. I don't consider it rude to knit while talking at all. Even if the person knitting has to break conversation a few dozen times to fight with whatever it is they're trying to do. Got so used to mom sitting in the livingroom, knitting afghans when I was little, that this is just normal proceedure.

I think some people seem to feel that if you are knitting your attention is not completely on them. I tend to put it in a completely different category though. If I am willing to knit while talking to you it means that I feel very comfortable.

I am taking it from this comment that you yourself don't knit? Is it because of lack of interest, skill, etc?

Lack of skill. A friend of mine taught me some very basic stuff, but my hands just didn't take to it at all. I got a couple rows in on a very basic scarf I was throwing together, and totally lost the whole thing. Can't crochet, either. Same with cross-stitching. I'm somewhat descent with clay and woodworking, though. Go figure.
