A Christmas Story. A classic if there ever was one. A comedy, if you haven't seen it, which you probably haven't if it's not on the list. It's worth buying. :)

ugg I just didn't like it at all. (It has come up in conversation though.)

Add The Ref to comedy (if you like semi-offensive Denis Leary).

Nightmare Before Christmas is fun as well. Depending on your tastes, that is.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snow Man are good kid's movies too.

I am not too into traditional Christmas movies, so our holiday selection is rather odd. ;)

The Ref rocks!

For a truly non-traditional Christmas movie, I'd go for Die Hard.

Ooh... I forgot Die Hard.

We watched The Ref last night. Denis Leary is my idol. ;)

I have a confession... I don't think I have seen either of those movies.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

I remember watching it again with a bunch of drunken coworkers and it was pretty amazing what they could get away with saying back then:

Narrator: Old Donner felt pretty bad about the way he had treated Rudolph, and he decided the only thing to do was to go out and look for his little buck. Mrs. Donner wanted to go along, naturally, but Donner said...
Donner: No. This is man's work.

and another gem...

Donner: You'll like it and wear it!
Rudolph: But Daddy, it's not very comfortable!
Donner: There are more important things than comfort: self respect!

were worth some pretty big laughs :)

We have it on DVD and watched it again the other day... I remember those two parts quite well. If Rudolph were to be shown for the first time ever right now, people would be appaled by some of the innuendos in it. Alas, because it's a "classic", it's much different.

As to the first would you recommend this movie? I haven't seen it, but someone was talking about it recently and I was thinking about it.

-I think it's a great romantic movie. On reflection, it might not be perfect for your Chinese officemate. There are some bits which require some cultural background to understand, like the romance between the two porn movie stand-ins.

I had completely forgotten that Batman Returns was set around chistmas time! What is bad Santa about (more so than the obvious)?

Hm... I'm tempted to just say "Billy Bob Thornton being really funny," because that's a lot of what I liked about it.

It's basically your classic "bad guy discovers his heart of gold" story, only set at Christmas. (As you might expect from a Billy Bob Thornton movie, it also has considerably more strong language than "The Muppet Christmas Carol".) It was way smarter and funnier than I expected it to be.
