I spent some time with my sister watching classic Julia Child this evening. Have I mentioned how much I loved this woman? She is sorely missed. I have found no one remotely close. A few selected quotes from this evening:

"water to cover me bones"

"In my experience this results in mushy vegetables, and I don't like it."

"the parsnip, a vegetabe not appreciated by many"

After a lot of hearing about the tsunamis hitting Thailand I finally saw a picture showing the epicenter. From there it was evident that the Philippines were completely spared. There may be some unusually high tides, but nothing worse. Given how the geography of the Philippines this is a great blessing indeed. Thinking about what would have happened if the epicenter was just a little bit different is terrifying and makes me empathize with those who had loved ones in tsunami's path that much more.

Apparently a snow emergency has been declared in Boston. For those of you whom this does not affect you will be glad to know that you unlike us actually have a place to park. Yeah, the best thing about where we live is that there really is no nearby parking that is not street parking. Even if we wanted to do otherwise there really isn't anyplace to go. As a result the car needs to be moved to a fairly remote location, and the elements braved to get back to the apartment. I guess the good news is that with the holiday there might be fewer people vying for what few spots are available.

The BBC is running a cute article involving some of my favorite things: math, chaos theory and craftiness. A similar story can be found on Craftster. Mmmmmm... crocheted Lorenz manifold... To bad that I am really trying to pick up knitting at the moment. (Speaking of which I finished a very pretty 7" by 7" garter stitch sample today of which I am ridiculously proud)

Instructions to make such a thing if you are so inclined can be found here
