After a lot of hearing about the tsunamis hitting Thailand I finally saw a picture showing the epicenter. From there it was evident that the Philippines were completely spared. There may be some unusually high tides, but nothing worse. Given how the geography of the Philippines this is a great blessing indeed. Thinking about what would have happened if the epicenter was just a little bit different is terrifying and makes me empathize with those who had loved ones in tsunami's path that much more.

The death toll is getting higher as they find people and reestablish communications. Have you noticed that once the death count gets beyond a number that people just can't relate anymore. One death is bad 10 is much worse but beyond that it's hard to relate.

Yeah, specifically I was noticing that at first they were giving a number like 11k people, but now as more reports are coming in it seems as if they are just saying "a lot".
