Helmand

Roger and I ended up going to Helmand (amusing they don't have their own web page), the Afghan restaurant over by the Galleria. We had been interested in going for a while, but their hours had prevented us from going until recently. They are only open from 5-11 on most nights, and thus only do dinner.

The maitre d'-type person was an older middle eastern man. He was highly disapproving of us, apparently because of our dress. Roger had on a tee-shirt and (nice) shorts. I was wearing a babydoll and a long skirt. Moral: dress a little nicer for better initial treatment. We weren't sure if he was going to seat us or not. The place was almost completely empty, but he gave us a lot of grief about not having a reservation.

Our waiter was very nice though and the food was good. I got the sea bass, and Roger got some sort of meatball like thing. The bread is just to die for though. I think I could have happily just had that if it weren't for the unwelcome vibe. I would go again armed with the knowledge of what was expected.

I find right around finals I get really domestic all of a sudden. I have this urge to clean my neglected house. I cook and bake a lot more. Last night, for example, I made banana bread. (Walking into the kitchen was like getting a lung-full of banana... but in a good way.)

It also means that I have been working on the crafty projects I usually put off until the materials take over my house. Last night I cut a bunch of 10" fleece squares for a lap-quilt I am making. This was well and good until I managed to gouge myself with the rotary blade. Damn those things are sharp! I wasn't even really aware I had cut myself at first. The important thing is that I didn't get blood on the fabric and I seem to be ok. I don't think I need stitches. Hmmm maybe being a klutz and crafty are not so good a combination.
