This is not intended to offend anyone who is bi-polar or whose loved ones are, but seriously this is getting pretty awful. I am not bipolar (to the best of my knowledge) but grad school is definately making me seem that way. Monday I was so anxious about my presentation I quite literally made myself sick. Tuesday I had the presentation and felt awesome after, particularly after I got the email from my adviser commending the work I had done and saying what a great start on my thesis work this was. I was giddy and happy for all of about 1.5 days. Then the current HW assignment had me crying at the computer cursing my inability to do this program (the graduate coursework not the software, though that too for that matter). (There is a corollary to Murphy's law that states that if you wear non-waterproof mascara you will end up crying before the day is over.) Even my roommate commented on how it was all really high or really low with very little middle ground.

I could really use a relaxing break next week (my spring break) but instead I will probably run around doing more research then I usually have time for. The one bright spot is that [livejournal.com profile] astro_babe will be coming to town, which I would set aside time for.

PS. LJ wants astrobabe to be fixed to astrolabe. This amuses me disproportionally.

Yes praise the lord it doesn't want to change me to astroglide ;)

But your link points to the wrong blog. I tried to get that one, really I did, but some silly squater has been using it. grr.

And the bipolar to grad students think- I'm kinda bipolar anyways, but I don't work makes things worse if something big and urgent gets dropped on my desk I go pretty manic until I'm done and then I crash. Thankfully with work I've learned to say "That's it, my 40 hours are in this week" but I'm not really looking forward to classes and TAing next fall.

:D

I'm so used to using astrobabe every where I usually forget this version of my login in the most important place- the login page to pay my credit card!

i am experiencing this effect too, although i had those kinds of mood swings to a lesser degree before. grad school definitely makes them much worse.

I have always been prone to my highs were high and my lows were low, but as an undergrad there was some time that was jsut in between. Now I feel like I am always either hugging everyone I see, grinning ear to ear or sobbing. This makes me really reconsider weither I would survive a PhD program!
